I’ve have the same problem you guys were describing, however, it only happens when selecting CGI mode for PHP (individual php versions for each host).
I’ve installed the latest 3.0.7.2 and confirmed that the local default mac apache is not running, but I still get thee vague apache error without any details.
Can you guys confirm your problem was solved when selecting CGI mode? Works fine when I use module mode.

Got tired of MAMPS sucky and pathetic support and won’t throw dollar$ at those heads ever again.
Yes I am a little salty with MAMP at the moment but also really want to highlight how well AMPPS works and how anyone reading this might want to give it a try.

January 19, 2015 at 9:02 am #193602TomParticipantYou could also run a VM with Vagrant and set up a basic LAMP stack. You can find a lot of tutorials for it as well!
March 12, 2015 at 5:45 am #197945nomadicParticipantI have just upgraded to MAMP Pro 2.2 and had the same issue –
chrisburton’s post from # SEPTEMBER 7, 2014 AT 11:15 AMFixed mine!
April 23, 2015 at 4:17 am #200965jnpwebdeveloperParticipantRan into the same problem. Really strange as it was working fine before. I solved the issue by updating my Macs hostname. Simply go to “System Preferences” > “Sharing” and I then changed the “Computer Name” to something like “xyzmacbook”. I was then able to startup apache without that problem.
December 23, 2016 at 1:06 am #249239JohannesParticipantFor me it was fixed by adding an entry in my hosts file for my macs localhost hostname.
I added this line to my /etc/hosts file:
127.0.0.1 JohannesMacBook.local
