ParticipantI’ve tried several ways to get MAMP PRO to work for me. The main issue is that Apache keeps conking out, not sure why.
Apache starts when i don’t have any servers other than local. But when i start to create new servers Apache won’t run.
Here is my setup per screen shots:
shot 1: http://kualitydesign.com/css-tricks/mamp-1.png
shot 2: http://kualitydesign.com/css-tricks/mamp-2.png
shot 3: http://kualitydesign.com/css-tricks/mamp-3.png
shot 4: http://kualitydesign.com/css-tricks/mamp-4.png
I’ve googled, but all i’ve been able to find is how to start a new server, which i know how to do when MP starts normally.
What i don’t know how to do is troubleshoot MP when it Apache doesn’t start. Really need to work locally for a new WP build and would love to get this up and running.
If anyone has had this same issue, can spot my error, or has other ways to fix the issue and cares to share, that would rule!
My hunch, and it’s a very noob hunch, is that Apache on MAC is running and it’s conflicting with MP’s apache, if that’s even possible. I just re-call reading that somewhere.
Thank you.

ParticipantOh btw, as you can see in the screenshots that everything runs fine when i don’t have a new server created.
But after i create one here’s the message it gives me:

shot 6 error: http://kualitydesign.com/css-tricks/mamp-6.png
thanks.

ParticipantDid you check your logs as that last error suggested?

ParticipantWhat should i be looking for as an error?
March 10, 2014 at 6:44 pm #165331rizedr
ParticipantI have the exact same issue.

ParticipantI have the exact same issue for for different reasons. I upgraded to Apache 2.4.7-1 and it broke. But it seems like you guys are using 2.2 so it’s probably unrelated.

ParticipantYou could just install Nginx and be done with this bloated madness.

ParticipantLast night I’ve managed to solve it. Apparently, I deleted the folder to which localhost was pointing, thus this was making it go all wrong. I changed the location and all was fine afterwards.

KeymasterI randomly had Apache fail to start on MAMP and it turned out to be my WiFi. I turned off WiFi and it started right up. WEIRD.

ParticipantI’m now receiving this error when starting up Mamp Pro:
In my logs it says this:
[Sun Sep 07 02:17:10 2014] [notice] Digest: generating secret for digest authentication ... [Sun Sep 07 02:17:10 2014] [notice] Digest: done [Sun Sep 07 02:17:10 2014] [notice] Apache/2.2.25 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.25 OpenSSL/0.9.8za DAV/2 PHP/5.5.3 configured -- resuming normal operations [Sun Sep 07 02:21:44 2014] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down
I can’t seem to find out the culprit and it’s driving me insane! I tried some of the suggestions above with no resolve. Even turning off WIFI (and restarting Mamp) did not help.

ParticipantWow. What a nightmare of searching since last night for hours and hours and hours.
Solution:
in
/Applications/Mamp/Library/bin
, find the fileenvvars
and rename it to_envvars

ParticipantI purchased a license to MAMP PRO 3 yesterday, and I’m continuing to experience the issues described in this thread. It seems that in the latest update of MAMP, the developers did address the “envvars” issue, although they have placed the underscore at the end of the file name. Moving it to the beginning has no effect. As others have described, Apache starts up fine when ‘localhost’ is the only server, but adding other servers will prevent it from starting.
I’m using the official release version of OSX 10.10 Yosemite, running MAMP PRO version 3.0.7.1. Is anyone else still experiencing this issue?
October 20, 2014 at 7:56 am #186660jmichaelward
ParticipantHey @chrisburton, thanks for your reply.
I sought help on IRC over the weekend and others recommended stopping the system Apache, as well. I understand that Mac OSX’s install of Apache and MAMP’s version cannot run at the same time, and I can confirm that the OSX install was not running at the time I was trying to boot up MAMP.
MAMP’s Apache error logs don’t seem to provide any helpful information, either – they resemble identically the messages you posted on September 7th.
I can use MAMP when ‘localhost’ is the only configured server – it’s only when I add other hosts that Apache will not start up. Thus, I can use MAMP PRO, but I cannot seem to take full advantage of it at this time. Hopefully others are still experiencing the same issue and we can uncover the issue.
Thanks again.

ParticipantUpdate: MAMP released version 3.0.7.2, which appears to correct this issue in Yosemite. I was able to get a new Virtual Host up and running simply by creating one, and Apache restarted as expected.
