I’ve been messing around recently with an .xml feed from Scripting News that contains Hi-Rez images from the Associated Press. It’s a cool way to get an "up to the minute" visual sense of the news. I wanted to do the same thing on my Blog so I wrote a quick WordPress plugin that parses the xml and sticks the thumbnail images into list items which then link to the full resolution images.
Add a nice javascript image viewer like Fancy Zoom and you have a nice little web gallery of constantly updated AP photos. You can grab the free plugin and see it in action here http://distresssignal.org/2009/01/hi-res-ap-photos/
I also created a version for the "everyone" feed coming from the image bookmarking service FFFFOUND! see that here http://distresssignal.org/2009/01/ffffo … ss-plugin/
Cheers.
