Guys, please check my fiddle and tell why there is no 480×480 black box with a few words of white text in it… my head hurts with banging it against a wall!

Because you used “color: #000000;” in the div. I’m guessing you meant “background-color: #000;”.

color: #000000;
to
background: #000
