ParticipantSo, I’ve been trying to revamp my logo for a little while and I’ve been really inspired by ASCII lately. The thing I love about it is the fact that I can pimp out my BASH configs to display awesome ASCII art. So… I wanted a logo that I could easily ASCII-fy. Here is the ASCII version:
___ ___ ___ /__/\ / /\ / /\ \ \|\ / /||\ / /|/_ \ \|\ / /|/\|\ / /|/ /\ \ \|\/ /|/ \|\/ /|/ /|/_ \__\/__/|/ \/__/|/ /|/ /\ / /\ \|\ /\ \|\/|/ /|/ __/ /|/\ \|\ /|/\ \||/ /|/ /__/\/|/ \ \|\/|/ \ \|\/|/ \ \ |/ \ \||/ \ \||/ \__\/ \__\/ \__\/
I think I’ll vector this tomorrow for the real thing. I like that it’s my name but it’s still a bit abstract. As part of the hacker ethos, I can’t have my logo be totally distinguishable upon first glance. I want to give people a little brain candy and make them feel smart when they finally ‘see’ it.
Also, I like that I can do a little CSS transition on it. It can start as just a few chevron arrows/brackets and dots and slide open to be my name.

ParticipantThanks! I’ve always liked the Verge logo.
It will start out close to this:
___ ___ ___ /__/\ / /\ / /\ \ \|/ /||/ /|/_ \ / /|// /|/ /\ \/ /|// /|/ /|/_ /__/|//__/|/ /|/ /\ \ \|\\ \|\/|/ /|/ __/\ \|\\ \||/ /|/ /__/\\ \|\\ \|\/|/ \ \ |\ \||\ \||/ \__\/ \__\/ \__\/

ParticipantMaybe I’ll make the ‘E’ just three lines. I’ll have to see how it looks.

ParticipantThe Last variation seems even better suitable for a logo, for it’s terse ( will fit nicely inside of a square).
Just like that Frustro font, also “the Verge”‘s logo has this Penrose triangle treatment. Guess you are already thinking about doing variations on this theme, so maybe you can use that as well …( And there is always the inevitable M.C. Escher of course for many examples … )

That’s always important to me for social media. Also, it could start out as a cube, then do a cutaway in the animation and then spread the slices apart. That would be sick.

HA HA HA!

SVG stands for “scalable vector graphic.” That’s what I mean.

I used Sublime Text 2 because Vim seemed hard for something artistic. Any editor with mono-spaced text will work.

ParticipantThank you. Do you prefer the second or the first? I’ve always been indecisive about it.

ParticipantI probably like the 2nd. It’s a bit cleaner. But… I say you should make it bigger and thicken it up… just like the original.

Yeah, I’ll give that a try. But I do want a small “sig” version.
