I have a thumbnail gallery which contains a lot of images and I’ wondering how to achieve the colored effect on mouse hover without css sprites for each image.
Take a look here to see the images.

or

or you could use:
img:hover { filter:grayscale;}
but that doesn’t work in chrome, but in IE. I liked the first one.
A quick google showed a bunch of results:

thanks for suggestions, I’ve noticed that is impossible to apply this kind of effect for turning the greyscale image into a colored image without using an image hover property.
