Forcing Content to not expand if it would create a scroll bar.

I have a setup of a sort of now-playing page. The image is centered and the width is a function of how wide the screen is. However if the width and height of the screen would cause the image (or the Description below it) to go off the edge of the screen, I would like the image to stop expanding. Is there a way to accomplish this? Here is a basic pen of what I’m doing.
