I’m sure everyone has been reading a post on facebook and seen the little popup that says someone has liked this or some else has written that.

    How is that done?

Is it a jquery script that polls a database for changes and pop up something when there’s a change?

    Or is it something else?

Reason I ask, I need to check an xml feed for changes and update a database when there’s a change (approximately every 4 minutes). Rather than refresh an entire page with html refresh to rework the values in php, I’m thinking there must be a more eloquent way to do this.

    Anyone have a suggestion?
