im trying to get a 3 column layout with a header. I have created this ok but im going to be putting php inside the columns so the height is going to vary. the middle column is going to have several box again depending on php so will vary in number.
I have put all 3 columns inside a container div which im going to put a solid background colour in and a image for the main background.

if I use position:inherit on the columns then the container div stretches to the column. this works ok on the middle column if I use position absolute on the side columns. if I use position:inherit on all columns then the columns end up being pushed below the previous column.

I need all 3 columns to push the container div to match the column divs .

    thanks for any help
