I’d like to try the full-window-resizing-background-trick featured on this site with some of my own sites. However, it seems that the licensing for all the stock photo sites that I’ve used in the past only allows digital use up to 800×600! You guys have any advice? (Other than take my own photos?)

Thanks Makeshift, I was aware of SXC, but I don’t really feel that the stock there is high-quality enough for my purposes. I was planning on using an image in its original form, so it has to be a very high-quality photograph/composition.

We use http://www.istockphoto.com/index.php for almost all of our clients.

I think any image stock photos provider (unless free images provider) will never allows that, because when you place more than 800 px image on your site, people will able to save / copy / stealing their high-res image easily.
The safest way think is using your own photograph.
But maybe you can try this : http://www.bigstockphoto.com/usage.html, i didn’t see "no 800px" image usage restriction there, unless you use the image on a gallery or library format
