Yes, I could do that, but then (unless I’m thinking about it incorrectly) there might be issues with different screen widths).
Thank you — I’m a designer who doesn’t always have to do her own CSS. (Although lately I’ve been doing most of my own CSS). So the subtleties/options/solutions can get a bit rusty — if not completely overwhelming.

If it were me, I would use CSS3 (border, border radius & rgba colors) and then an image and IE hack to make it cross-browser compatible in IE, (otherwise you’ll have solid colors and square corners in IE).
