I don’t know if I feel that strongly about it. I think it’s a context thing, similiar to when to use _blank. If there is a group of links that are rather list-like and it could be imagined a user would benefit from knowing which ones they have been to, by all means, add :visited styling. But most of time, probably not that big of deal.
I dig the localStorage trickery for allowing more custom styles though!
