depends how low you can get the file size really. alot of sites use a fixed large image these days – thanks to the advent of broadband, but also image quality lol.

You can get ya images down really small these days :) So as long as your background image isnt like 5mbs lol …

But yea – I would always make everything as small as possible… :)
