    hi,

after 15 years on PC + Windows, I bought MAC book Pro, I want to switch to MAC

    question is
when doing web design, what tools, apps I need to get coding faster and more convenient?

I know of CODA and there my knowledge ends :)
I have budget of $700 to buy SW

    any recommendations?

    Photoshop for design.

I use MAMP Pro and Billings.

    I use *shudders* Dreamweaver.

I just use the code view because it has a lot of neat time-saving features.

I agree with CristopherBurton. Go pro. I went pro and I am loving it ever since.

Only go Pro if you’re planning on buying 15″ or larger. I’d take the 13″ Air over the Pro any day.

PHP and Apache are included with Mac OS X – you just need to enable them (very easy). You can install MySQL separately. Many people don’t want the technical challenge (not hard) and opt for MAMP.

krysak, it’s Mac, not MAC. I’d go for the pro myself…

I’m intrigued by all of the ‘Pro’ choices. Why would you take the Pro over the Air?

Are we talking about the 13″, 15″ or 17″?

For me, it’s a no-brainer at the 13″ level, gotta go for the Air – the speed that you’ll get from the SSD will be fantastic and it’ll be so easy to travel with.

At home, you’ll most likely be hooking it up to a monitor to work on, so the screen size isn’t too big of an issue, especially if you’re coding.

@TheDoc I can only offer the reason I went for a Pro over an Air (although i got a 15″): I need as much power as possible for my design work (It’s plugged into a 24″ monitor at home). My next upgrade will be a SSD for sure.

I absolutely couldn’t stare at a 13″ screen. Not even for emailing on the go. I was specifically speaking of the 15″. I can’t work with anything smaller.

If you’re going to use it for work, I certainly wouldn’t buy it then.
