    Hi all,

I am wanting to create a responsive web design, and I’m wondering if it’s worth using a boilerplate such as Skeleton or Less Framework, to get me started?

What are your thoughts on boilerplates?

    Thanks,

    Ross

Oddly enough, although I haven’t used it yet, I heard good things about Twitter Bootstrap (http://twitter.github.com/bootstrap/index.html) as mentioned on this site’s front page today.

Thanks for the replies. Can anyone point me to any tutorials on building a responsive website on a boilerplate?

yes, they can cut down the time it takes to get up and running on a project. for the last month or so i’ve been using Initializr.

it’s really helped me get my head around the idea of mobile first.

I’ve been going back and forth on wether or not I want to make my site’s redesign responsive. In some aspects, I don’t really see the point (because of my traffic and where it’s coming from etc) but my developer side wants to attempt it. I had a client recently send me a link to the 1440 grid in his design brief…it looks pretty simple! I found this post while running a search on what other designers/developers are saying about it. I think I’m going to give it a try. My design should work well on a grid anyway ;)

@andy_unleash thanks for including a link to your site as an example…that made up my mind!

If the site is small enough to get away without using a grid, you could just use a boilerplate and design the responsiveness yourself.. You cut down on load time that way.
