Home › Forums › JavaScript › HTML5 video produces horrible speed index results
Hi guys, I am trying to use <video> HTML tag. It works great but if I test its speed on Webpagetest.org, the speed index is horrendous, nothing in the limits of 2000-3000.
The demo is here http://zerobrainwash.com/sandbox/video/ , and the results from that page are http://www.webpagetest.org/result/141003_J6_AH7/1/details/ .
I looked at how Airbnb handles their video and all is exactly the same except they have preload attribute with value ‘auto’. So I tried that, meaning that the video starts loading only after everything else has executed. The results of my experiments are below but in the end, they are still nowhere Airbnb, I wonder what’s their secret to such awesome results. Do you have any recommendations?
Here are my experiment results:
– Code as in my first post, no preload attribute – http://www.webpagetest.org/result/141003_SA_ATN/1/details/
– Same code, except preload is set to auto – http://www.webpagetest.org/result/141003_1Y_B3A/1/details/
– Preload set to none, video starts loading when window.load even is fired – http://www.webpagetest.org/result/141003_J6_B32/1/details/ .
I faced the same problem and came across this
