Nice idea. I like how it looks.
A few things that should be fixed:
Tag cloud: Gray on gray is hard to read on some monitors or by people who have vision problems.
Links over pictures: Once again gray on gray plus transparency is hard to read.
A few things that could be nice to add:
In the navigation: make the links block elements and on rollover make them highlight the whole are area.

Add another separator between elements in the sidebar.
These are just things that might help but not actually necessities but niceties.
