Do It like an Ostrige

At first it will make no sense, but bare with me. I have a friend who has an ostrige farm and he told me something interesting, that if he wanted to make some changes to the ostriges’ fence or change the position of the feeders he would have to move them by 5-10 sm a day over a mounth. That’s because they remember the position and if it changes suddenly they won’t use it anymore. And then i rememberd an interview in the .NET magazine with sume designer from google who was telling about how bad a design change might be for a site. So… can’t we figure out some clever way of re-designing gradually, so when the user comes to our site he doesn’t go "oh.. sh*t".
