{"id":261444,"date":"2017-10-17T10:31:22","date_gmt":"2017-10-17T17:31:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/css-tricks.com\/?p=261444"},"modified":"2017-10-17T10:31:22","modified_gmt":"2017-10-17T17:31:22","slug":"havent-experienced-imposter-syndrome-maybe-havent-either","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/css-tricks.com\/havent-experienced-imposter-syndrome-maybe-havent-either\/","title":{"rendered":"I haven&#8217;t experienced imposter syndrome, and maybe you haven&#8217;t either"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote>\n<p>In recent years it\u2019s become trendy to discuss how we all apparently suffer from this imposter syndrome &#8211; an inability to internalize one&#8217;s accomplishments and a persistent fear of being exposed as a \u201cfraud\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>I take two issues with this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>it minimizes the impact that this experience has on people that really do suffer from it.<\/li>\n<li>we\u2019re labelling what should be considered positive personality traits &#8211; humility, an acceptance that we can\u2019t be right all the time, a desire to know more, as a \u201csyndrome\u201d that we need to \u201cdeal with\u201d, \u201cget over\u201d or \u201cget past\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s not an officially recognized syndrome (yet?), but you can have medical diagnoses that are like imposter syndrome.
