It’s all too common to see the incorrect HTML used for quotes in markup. In this article, let’s dig into all this, looking at different situations and different HTML tags to handle those situations.

The quotes property in CSS allows you to specify which types of quotes are used when quotes are added via the content: open-quote; or content: close-quote; rules. Here’s how to use it:

q {
  quotes: "“" "”" "‘" "’";
}
q::before {
    content: open-quote;
}
q::after {
    content: close-quote;
}
