I collected a bunch of data from you guys when you filled out that form to enter the 2-Year Anniversary Giveaway. I figured I’d aggregate it into some graphs, courtesy of Wufoo.
How much do you care that the articles on CSS-Tricks are only very occasionally about “CSS” or “Tricks”?
I was secretly hoping for a larger slice of the pie that didn’t care (“Meh”). Some days the name of this site strikes me as cheezy, other days I’m perfectly happy with it. The fact is changing the name would be likely have more negative impact than positive, so it’s probably not going anywhere. Just be aware that the focus is far wider than CSS (even though I still heart CSS) =).
What is the best movie in this list?
Sneakers, people, clearly! I was happy to see it rock a solid #3. It’s all about the information, Marty!
What is your favorite style of post?
Good news for me here, as it’s kind of a random spattering of what people like. I’ll just keep the content and topics spread out like that to comply.
Involvement with Web Design
Sorry the labels didn’t come out better there, but the jist of it is that the vast majority of you guys do this in some way for money.
Screencasts
83% of you watch the screen casts at least “once in a while”, so that’s encouraging, and very few folks think it’s because they are going downhill.
Thanks again!
Thanks to everyone who participated in the anniversary giveaway. Next year it’ll be even juicier I’m sure.
Update
Check out this new cool infographic from Joe Mako:
Interesting post – I suppose it is always useful to collect some information from your user base so that your content stays fresh – personally I think you’re doing a great job!
this is one site I check every day and have really learned a lot from your articles, videos and forums.
thanks a lot Chris, hope you are liking the windy city, winters will certainly be a lot different there than on the left coast
good luck
Al
Keep it up, boy. You are doing a dandy job :)
A lot of the little tricks I use in my daily work I have picked up from here :)
In short, keep up the good work, and thank you!
John.
Syntaxmonster.net
Hey nice!, yery much my profile. Keep em coming!
Suggestion: Would you explain how they pulled off the background effect for the new think geek site?? scroll all the way down.
Thanks!
Thanks!!!, it turned into a screencast yupi!
I love your site! I just found it recently and have just finished school. There is so much I was not taught in school which you have generously helped me with here. I am very thankful.
All The Best!
Hm? The first pie chart is wrong. 101%? WTF ;)
Nice to see these results up, and that people are enjoying the site!
Shame about some of those pie charts though, a few of the longer titles have come out a little janky :s
My domain is visual-blade (originally it was intended to be some sort of animation website (anime and stuff) ), now I’m not sure if I should change it. :S
I think the domain is fine, going over principles of business, and other technologies is one of the most exciting things about the web. Branching out is never bad, and there’s always recurring CSS topics anyway.
Thanks man. I love screencasts because I can really learn, you know. You´re doing a very good job here. Congrats. In books it´s complicated, but on screen you could follow along step by step. Rewind, forward, so thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Finally, I admire your skills, not only as a designer but programmer. I´m a designer and for me programming it´s too hard. How do you sleep at nights? -joke-.
How you do do to understand all about wordpress? I read the Codex and it´s so intimidating, non-designer-friendly and you make it very simple for us. Thanks again. In deed.
Like everyone else is saying… keep it up!
Even if I don’t think I am going to be interested in an article, I always jump over from my reader to check it out. And definitely one of my preferred feeds to follow.
Thanks!
What a brilliant way to get, use and share feed back. You’re the greatest man! Cheers!
Do “CSS 18%” and “Other 9%” have the same colour in the “results-topics.png”-chart?
Uhm, same goes for “results-typesofposts.png”. Just a heads-up!
My eyes must be going… The colors of the first two pie charts look more muted than the other charts.
It doesn’t bother me in the least that the content is often not about CSS but I sometimes find myself thinking about the name of your site too. If I didn’t already know the site and was scrolling through a list of recommended sites, I would probably assume it only covered CSS (not that that’s a bad thing in itself). But probably what keeps me returning is the breadth of topics covered.
Under “What is your favorite style of post?” you should add something about user polls! I like user polls!
Nice infographics and statistics, I really like presentation style!
And damn, I wasn’t checking your web design version for a while, only reading RSS, but I must say and admit – site design is gorgeous!
Very detailed and unique, you really put big effort in your site! Respect!
Awesome work Chris, keep it up!
I think it’s kind of funny and ironic that on Joe Mako’s infographic only 19% of people we’re interested in polls/results.
