I like your site. Very interesting. I like the navigation.

However, it could do with some more colors though. At times the green kinda feels out of place because it is the only color.
Second, the gray on gray can sometimes be hard to read by people with different monitors or vision problems.

    Keep it up.

Nice looking blog keep up with it.

A few things that might small touches:

The navigation might do with some button like rollover instead of just underlining the link.
Also the sidebar might be helped by: http://www.usabilitypost.com/2008/09/04 … ble-areas/

Just some thoughts looks good though.

Nice idea. I like how it looks.

A few things that should be fixed:
Tag cloud: Gray on gray is hard to read on some monitors or by people who have vision problems.
Links over pictures: Once again gray on gray plus transparency is hard to read.

A few things that could be nice to add:
In the navigation: make the links block elements and on rollover make them highlight the whole are area.
    Example: http://www.usabilitypost.com/2008/09/04 … ble-areas/
Add another separator between elements in the sidebar.
These are just things that might help but not actually necessities but niceties.

    Keep up the good work.

    Hey everyone,

Thanks for trying to help. I realize that this isn’t a flash forum and I can’t get all my answers here, but css problems and the like are really good here.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew of any good flash forums where I might go for some more help with this problem.

    Thank you.

[*EDIT*] I will post the solution to the problem here if/when I get one. [*/EDIT*]

    Thanks Criss,

Everything does work just like javascript. The biggest problem was with my amazing typing skills and not being able to spot every typo the first time. Maybe next time I will check for typos a few more times before I start posting here.

    Thanks anyway.

Your images need alt tags so that users without images know what all that text it that you use in the images. Nice looking site though.

    Thanks for the tips.

I was able to remove the red outlines in Firefox by using:

    a:focus, a:hover, a:active { outline:none }

I will work on polishing this design and possible work on a new design as time permits.

Very nice, very clean, very simple. Good contrast. Defiantly add the return to top link.

When I started this design I thought it would look really cool and allow me to stand out some but after I was "done" with it I realized it wasn’t that great and I have been trying to come up with a new design maybe something more simplified but still give it some way of standing out. As for the red box around the links this is something that firefox and I think there is a simple CSS thing for it but I havn’t been able to find any way of fixing it.

Also, I have been meaning to add a JavaScript image loader so that the images appear immediately instead of taking a second to load.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I also think I might have figured out what Google’s problem is with the title tags: they havn’t indexed it since August they just update their site which is weird. I don’t know why they put something saying it was updated even through they haven’t actually gone back and re-indexed my site.

The only thing I would mention is that the links on the left side can be changed to make the clickable area fill the entire box which is good for usability. For those links change the css to display:block for more info check out this post: http://www.usabilitypost.com/2008/09/04/usability-tip-inline-links-to-padded-blocks-for-larger-clickable-areas/

Interesting designs. Personally I like #2 better than #1.
I am actually the opposite of you I am good at coding but my artistic skills are somewhat lacking. I understand how to use ps and I know most of the tools in it but knowing the tool doesn’t produce art. Keep up the good work and keep learning.

This is a good clean site that works well and presents the information very well.

The only thing I would like to add would be contrast. You are by no means the only one that needs to keep this in mind I have been seeing it a lot since I started learning about usability. Anyway the brown text on the dark background might provide a problem for users with color deficiencies. Just a thought. Nice site.

Very interesting. It isn’t bad at all.

If you want to test in IE there is a program call IETester which tests from IE5.5 to IE8B1 I use it all the time for testing sites. The big logo at the top is nice it just needs to have more to it, it is sorta plain and boring.

    A few things to consider:
    1. Contrast: A lot of new designers (myself included) tend to forget about people with color deficiencies. The color of the text isn’t bad but try looking at in a black and white environment maybe just take a screen shot and turn it black and white and see what happens. I don’t know how big of a problem this is for your site but you might consider using a lighter color for the text.

    2. The headings/titles for the posts need to be larger. Being the same size as the text can be a problem especially if the user doesn’t perceive the slight difference of color in the heading from the body (not the text but the area around the text).

You can consider yourself a noob but really any good designer is always learning and never truly knows everything. I myself am not a designer but I am learning.
