I have 2 different sidebars (for pages) w/ menus that were created with the wordpress (Appearance > Menu).

The sidebars are identical, but I cannot get the

    current_page_item

CSS class to work on one of them.

The one that IS working includes the parent page item.
The one that IS NOT working does not include the parent page item.

Don’t ask why, but the client that I’m creating this for wants the parent for the one that is not working to be redirected IMMEDIATELY to the first child. I accomplished this with a plugin. Could this be my problem? I wouldn’t think so only because the menu that I created is a custom menu (as are all menus created in wordpress). Also, the plugin is set to redirect ONLY to one of the children.

    Thoughts?
