(WordPress) User authentication across multiple sites

Hi.

Is there a way to authenticate users across multiple wordpress sites?

I am developing a network of Site A, Site B and Site C. I want users to authenticate just one time and keep them authenticated while browsing network sites.

I dont wanna use WordPress Multisite for this. These are just three sites to different purposes and they will look very different.

Those are not mutually exclusive. You can still use WP Multisite if the sites are for different purposes and looking very different.

Yes, WP Multisite offers what I want but I am looking for alternatives.

The problem with WP Multisite is that some plugins and themes experience problems with it. Moreover I do not want many plugins installed on the main site, that will be used just by one network site. That´s why I said the sites were very different in purposes.
