I myself manage several WordPress sites and adding more every day it seems. I am trying to lock down good practices for keeping all my sites upgraded. Besides making sure I’m watching for new versions, I’m trying to figure out a good way to keep track of all my sites to make sure they are all up-to-date (short of a spreadsheet).

I was thinking, what about using the meta name="generator" version to keep track of multiple sites in a dashboard way. So you could poll a list of sites and populate them into a list/web page.

Now I know we should probably be removing this line as per (http://digwp.com/2009/07/remove-wordpre … on-number/) but I know I haven’t started doing this yet. So maybe this isn’t the best way.

    Something to think about.

Or maybe something simple like a WordPress plugin that will check and make sure it has the latest version of WordPress installed and email you if it’s out of date?
