Am a beginner in CSS . I often see these /style.css?v1.1 type style sheets. What are they and how to add such files?

When your stylesheet is cached and you make a change to your CSS, sometimes it won’t show the update. I believe this is usually caused by using a CDN service. Appending a version number to your stylesheet shows there has been a change so it will show the latest version.

Perhaps someone can explain in more precise detail.

thanks for the reply @jurotek ,@christopherBurton.
So this is just a redirection to the same stylesheet, but with a different url to compel the browser to pick it newly…! Thanks a lot….. :-)

There is no redirect. It’s the same stylesheet but just has a version number appended to it so it shows a change and the browser doesn’t load the older cached version.

`/style.css` The browser thinks nothing changed so it stays cached

    `/style.css?v1.1` This is your stylesheet

    You Make a Change

`/style.css?v1.2` Your browser can see something changed. It will now load this stylesheet to everyone
