I’ve a confusion what exactly website compatibility means. Is it cross browser, cross platform, cross OS, cross mobile and tab devices?

    Can anybody help?

Yes. All of that. But, you should decide which browsers you want to support. You can base that decision based on analytics data of your site. If you have a lot of users on e.g. IE 10 than you should support them. If not, you can decide to use modern css.

Have a look at https://caniuse.com to check browser support for your code.

I imagine “website compatibility” would also cover usability and accessibility too (“cross user” compatibility).
