    For some reason, when the opacity attribute is set on text, Safari renders the text bolder. Test page below. Looks fine on Chrome and Firefox, but not sure why on Safari (6.0.5) the text looks bold. Couldn’t find anything about it online, even though the opacity 0.99 trick to make text “clearer” is a known thing.

    Cannot reproduce although think the default background color in Safari(5) looks ‘whiter’ than that for Chrome.

    I’m on a mac, but this is how the text renders for me. In the image chrome is on the left, Safari on the right.
