Trying to get inline layout inside absolute position layout within relative position container

It currently looks like this, with Help floating to the next line:

But I want it to look like this, with Help right beside Value:

Value Help

Note that Background text appears invisible behind Value (which is what I want). And I’d like to have the float: left on the spans, but it’s causing the Help to float as well.
