Transferring live WordPress site to local

  • # March 16, 2013 at 6:14 pm

Coda 2 used to be my text editor of choice so I used to edit WordPress sites live. I have recently converted to Sublime Text 2 as well as adopting Compass however.

What is the best way of transferring a live WordPress site to a local machine and developing from there?

I’ve always used [Duplicator]( “”) to move WP sites. I’ve never moved from live to local, but I imagine it would work.

I’m actually in the exact situation you’re in now. I use Coda 2 and worked on most of my WP sites live. However, now I want to make the transition to Sass to I need to adjust my workflow to work locally opposed to live.

+1 for duplicator – or just follow the guide in the WordPress codex.

I’ve never used Duplicator, but it does look intriguing. I usually just dump the database via the export tool and copy over the plugin / wp-content folders.
