Text fade "read more" CSS Tricks tutorial not working – Foundation related?

Hi,

So, I am following this tutorial https://css-tricks.com/text-fade-read-more/

and the absolute positioning doesn’t appear to be working. The read more box, which should appear over the bottom of the text, appears below the end of the text.

I’m using Foundation for a Magento theme. Any idea if some aspect of Foundation would prevent it from working?
