With all these sticky footer options running around, could someone please enlighten me as to why you simply don’t add padding to the bottom of the body and absolutely position the footer down there?

Who says you can’t?
The great thing about CSS is you can do most things in more than one way. So if one way doesn’t work in a browser, you can just try another.
