Looking for good explanation of smooth vertical scrolling.

There is one on Codrops(http://tympanus.net/codrops/2010/06/02/smooth-vertical-or-horizontal-page-scrolling-with-jquery/) , but I can’t understand how it is working when class names in HTML documents are differentiate from relevant Style Sheet.

I am new to all this good stuff.
