Trying to create a slanted navigation with a 5px gap between each list item…

When I add minus left margin to the second list item(to close the gap between first and second), the problems im having becomes apparent(due to my use of two colored borders for the slant).
I know this effect can be achieved using background images or some snazzy CSS3 but is there anyway of doing this using CSS2?
Thanks in advance for the assistance.
P.S: Just noticed in firefox there is a 1px white strip showing at the bottom of each list item, not sure why this is.
