securing wordpress

    I want to secure my wordpress site and wanted to know. When creating a htaccess file. Do I upload it to the main root? example http://www.mysite.com/.htaccess

    also, it asks on installation about the table prefix. I just left it as is but if I go to my wp-config file can I change it? if yes will this damage any database files or anything? what can I change it to? does it have to be “wp_namehere” or can it be “namehere_ “?

    You might want to check out the book called Digging into WordPress.
    They give you ashlie of things you can do to secure your site.

    There are also a few really good, highly supported plugins that can help secure your site. BetterWPSecurity and WordFence both come to mind.
