    Hey awesome CSS-tricks forum users!

I have a short question about CSS3 and HTML5 which I hope you can help me clarify!

    Can I start a new website mixing CSS3 and HTML5 with CSS2 and HTML4 ?

Or does CSS3 and HTML5 only work if you solely use CSS3 and HTML5 specific codes?

I hope i made myself clear on this matter, and that you’ll be able to answer it :)

Thank you for an awesome forum, and thank you for any answers posted here :)

Mix and match! Just make sure if you’re going to use HTML5 elements that you use the HTML5 Doctype. Also make sure to double check on any cross-browser issues, you’ll need a few fallbacks.

I’ve decided to take the plunge and do everything in my latest site using HTML5 layout tags like header, footer etc. Seeing as it’s basically a massive Google Map plugged into a database the JavaScript solution for IE6/7/8 should be more than adequate
