Hey all,
Here’s what’s up. I have a client who needs a bilingual (Eng/Fr) site. He is fluent in both and says he’d like to write the French content as well as the English content.
I’ve done a bunch of research, found plugins like WPML and xLanguage, but I’m sort of hesitant to use a plugin that might break down the road for such a vital part of a website. The Google Ajax Translator is nice, but it doesn’t translate the menu etc.
This is the solution I’m tossing around. Let me know what you think.
a) creating a "/en" folder and a "/fr" folder at the root of the site
b) installing two separate versions of WP in /en and /fr
c) client updates both sites
The home page would be a landing page instructing users to choose their preferred language.
The obvious issue here is that it’d be double the work, but I can’t think of any other way that doesn’t use plugins. The WPML plugin looks great, but the dropdown isn’t working at all.
Thoughts? Better ways? Help would be awesome!
