nav on hover change to font-icon instead of text

I am trying to make a standard nav with text links to change to a font-icon on hover and so far I am out of luck!

Do you have those fonts in that location on your server because I can’t see them if you do.

I can’t get them to render even any text on the Codepen when using the font-family declaration…hover or not.

Yeah they work fine on my site, don’t know how come they don’t load in the pen. I added an icon below the nav, it doesn’t appear but you see the default icon that appears when it didn’t load.
