Hello folks so I’ve been working on making a website for myself for the last few days and I was really hoping to get some feedback on it. I do not have it hosted anywhere yet and I’m still looking out for a free host for now just to get it up there. I know you only get what you pay for and i don’t expect much out of a free host, but it would be a start. That being said, I have put up a screenshot of the website. Do take a look and tell me what you think. The frame on the far wall is an anything slider gallery holding pictures of websites i have created with the buttons on either side. The navigation on the bottom is in the ‘on’ state. The off state is simply the same but without the background color or star burst in the inner circle behind each icon.

Here’s the link to the image

also, if you click on the image it will zoom out to its actual size :D

I very much doubt you’ll get any free wordpress hosting, and if you do, it’ll be covered in adverts most likely.

I’m sorry but I don’t like your design at all. The graphics are horrible and generally this looks like a Geocities site circa year 2000 – not a modern, fresh 2011 website.

I think you should spend some time looking around and learning more about web design because frankly your current design is just awful. It’s even basic things like none of the text lines up with the buttons, the slider is tiny, the graphics are pixellated, there’s no discernible colour scheme, no structure, no layout, nothing.

I do like the concept, but it does need more work.

I don’t like it. It’s, as stated above, not modern at all. Sure, go with the slider showing your work, and you could even stick with the 3D perspective. But not like this.

Less is sometimes more. And in this case it’s more true then ever.

well thanks for the critiques, I guess its back to the drawing board for me :D
I don’t normally make websites like this, for example the following link is of a site a created just before this.

Its just that I kind of got fed up of working within the same/ similar format over and over and then this idea popped into my head. I guess not every idea is a prize winner :/

Reminds me of the ol’ “Point & Click” flash games, which isn’t a good thing aesthetically.

The graphics do look a little archaic, but the conceptual design is fresh enough to evoke interest. With fresher images, it could be a nice site.

Thanks for all the input! I realized that this was a great project for me to take on recreating an entire room in photoshop, but it doesn’t really work out well as a webpage for all the reasons you’ll pointed out above and more. Don’t worry I haven’t given up, I’m just going to need a week or two to come up with a new idea :D

@Brightonmike: Don’t be ridiculous, there are plenty of free hosts out there. I use http://000webhost.com/ but there are many more: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=free+web+hosting

Not all of us can afford the better options like Media Temple and such.

@Roxon – 000webhost is terrible. Takes ages to load and is completely unreliable.

Anyone, regardless of income, can afford to spend $5/mo on basic hosting.

Okay I love the concept, don’t like the assets you have used for the project, i.e, the icons, images, etc. If I was you I would go to iStockphoto, get a good looking Movie theater vector, and work my way up from there if you don’t want to do it yourself.

Like I said, the concept is nice, I think it’s very original, but the assets you have used scream “DONT LIKE”.

    Thanks once again guys,

    @OniLinkCR
I realized that a while ago which is why I said I’m going to do a different design. I was trying to make the whole room as realistic as possible but was being stubborn and wanted to do it all in photoshop which is a waste of effort when 3d rendering software was created for just such a reason. Also, yes the navigational icons sucked big time, I haven’t quite learned the art of making icons yet. In any case, a single page for one small gallery and a navigation bar is a waste of resources on a website that has its space and bandwidth budgeted by being hosted for free so I might as well create something new and hit you guys up with it, this may stay a project for another day but as of now, I am shelving it!

@TheDoc: It may be horrible, but it’s better than some $5/mo hosts mostly because I’m used to it. I’ve tried those kind of sites, and the outcome is wasted money and time.

There is lots of quality hosting that you can get for $5/mo.

If you want to look professional, you get your own domain and hosting. If you want to dick around, get a Tumblr account. My2c.

well for now its dick around time because i’m on an enforced vacation back in india as in i’m out looking for work (not as a web designer) I’m actually a biotechnologist working towardws being a medical lab technologist, so this isn’t of as much importance to me, its more to keep me occupied and i wanted to pursue this hobby with all the free time on my hands :D

if you consider it as an experimental design (without the thought of using it) then is not bad at all

but I dont think it is useful in any other way. I would not consider it as a website
