HR styling works in firefox but not in Safari/IE8

I have a background repeating image on the hr. Can’t seem to get it to work in Safari or IE8. Any ideas?

I absolutely hate HR styling.

The problem is it is impossible to get the same look across all browsers. Keep that in mind.

I have actually given up on the whole thing on looked at other ways to add a separator.

What method do you use as an alternative?

I’ve experimented with adding a background to the div that needs a separator, forcing it to the bottom and adding padding.

I’ve created a new "separator" div and applied a background to that.
