    Hello,

For responsive design, I have noticed that 960px is the commonly used ‘width’ for the base container. Are there any caveats for using 1170px as the base container width? Does it boil down to correctly assigning column width/proportions (25%, 50%, 33% etc.,) ?

If you’re using a percentage-based grid, then it probably doesn’t matter. http://cssgrid.net/ is a pretty good one.
