    I’m curious what the appId does exactly when creating a like button. I go and create the like button through ajax, dynamically. But first I put the following right after my <body> tag opens:

        window.fbAsyncInit = function() {
            FB.init({appId: 'your app id', status: true, cookie: true,
                    xfbml: true});
        (function() {
            var e = document.createElement('script'); e.async = true;
            e.src = document.location.protocol +

    So it still seems to work when I leave in appId: ‘your app id’.
    Am I, as the developer (not the owner of the FB page), supposed to be the one creating the appId’s? Or am I supposed to hassle the client to figure out how to create/register their app’s with FB?
