Is there anyway to exclude the alt="" attribute from the img tag while still successfully validating as HTML5? From what I’ve read, the attribute can be excluded, but when validating errors will exist…

    Basically…no.

The attribute exists for a reason. Now you may not wish to serve that part of your audience and that’s entirely up to you.

Validation is not mandatory…you can ignore it if you wish.
