You can use the audio element and control it with Javascript.
Something like that:
<audio src="http://somesite.com/audio/file.mp3" id="player1"></audio>
<button id="player-play">Play</button>
<button id="player-stop">Stop</button>
var player = document.getElementById('player1'),
playBtn = document.getElementById('player-play'),
stopBtn = document.getElementById('player-stop');
playBtn.addEventListener('click', function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
player.play();
});
stopBtn.addEventListener('click', function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
player.pause();
player.currentTime = 0;
});
Then style the buttons however you see fit.
Note that this will not work with IE 8 and bellow
