Today I read an article about creating pure css icons with css :after and :before pseudo elements (source: http://www.front-end-developer.com/2011/08/19/create-pure-css-icons-using-just-css-and-semantic-html/) and then I asked myself if the rendering is faster than using a simple sprite image. Did somebody already try to measure it?
Bummer you had to read about it on a site that just scraped the content straight from Nicolas Gallagher’s site. But check out Opera’s newish profiler: http://my.opera.com/dragonfly/blog/style-profiler-preview
