CSS a with background image

Hello,
I’m working on a website where the user can add products. These products will be automatically generated in a list on the frontpage using links. For the design i intend that these links will have a backgroud image to them, each and every one of them.

So i want to make it that every single link that gets generated will have that image in the background. Unfortunantly, i can’t figure it out and i’m not finding what i need on the world wide webs. Hope you guys could help me.

Not that this is a fixed width option. If the text will be very long then it may need some adjustment.
