can someone please show me where to download the starkers theme from chris’s tutorial!?!?!?!?!?!?
Have you tried googling it?
Definitely a good base. I use it for all my WordPress projects. This newest version (as linked above) is set up for responsive design, so if you’re interested in just learning the basics from the tutorial, you’ll have to modify the theme a bit.
Haven’t used one in a while, but definitely check this one out: http://underscores.me/

@deeve007, +100, over complicated for beginners.
I encourage everyone to build their own starter theme. And keep it very simple, only coding things you need as you go along. Using Codex will help a lot too. Figuring out things on your own can open your eyes to so many things, how websites are built in general, how WordPress works, limitations and possibilities.
@rwchampin – I know these feels, I watched all of the WP videos from Chris and then when I came to install the Starkers theme myself [for my website](http://stevenwatson.co.uk “”)… all of the files had changed and some of the code inside the files had changed too, making it hard to follow.
However once you have a look around it isn’t too bad, you’ll get used to it with the new blank theme version.

This never gets old…
I always preferred to use the HTML5 Reset WordPress Theme
Here’s a direct link to Chris’s original BLANK theme, which I still use a modified version of to this very day:

I’m still using Starkers 3 for my projects. Has a little more widget/menu support than (the current version) 4 I think.
I’m yet to find the perfect one but I like the minimalism of the original BLANK theme, along with my own modifications it fits my workflow perfectly.
