Append Jquery with Cufon not Working

Hi I have created a few list items on a page and I had a client who said I want a ‘+’ in front of menu items.

Rather than using a plugin that would allow client to manually add these each time I used a bit of jquery prepend to these menu items… however they aren’t working with Cufon.

Everything is being rendered with Cufon except the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ items.

Any ideas on how I can get Cufon to render these little characters ok?
