Adding thumbnail images to slider

A website I am working on is using hero carousel slider but it doesn’t have thumbnails by default. How can I go about adding thumbnail images to the slider and make it have a box shadow on the thumbnail when the corresponding slider image is active.

Are thumbnails even an option?

We can’t do anything without some HTML / CSS / JS in a Codepen.io example.

Frankly,I think you’d better off with a different slider if thumbnails aren’t an option in the existing one.

JS is not a magic wand you can do just wave like that.
