There is other CSS causing the layout issues you may be experiencing. Applying percentages and em’s to images, classes, etc. will help with this. That meta tag allows the site to try and render its appearance to best suite the devices width. The images you speak of may be the only thing being affected by this so they look out of place, since the rest of the site is being locked in so it can’t adjust. Just a thought.
